The head of Asadabad Public Security Police was killed along with another officer in an Israeli attack in the western province of Hamadan, state news agency IRNA reported on Saturday.

“Major Habibollah Akbarian, head of the Public Security Police, along with Second Lieutenant Amir Seifi, were martyred during a reconnaissance and intelligence operation within the area of responsibility, after being hit by a drone,” said Brig. Gen. Hossein Najafi, the commander of police in the western province of Hamadan.

Israel launched a series of strikes against Iranian territory, targeting nuclear and missile facilities early Friday, killing senior military figures and scientists. The wave of attacks has continued and resulted in the deaths of at least 78 people with 320 others injured, according to figures earlier announced by Iran's UN envoy.

In retaliation, Iran fired ballistic missiles at several locations inside Israel Friday night, resulting in the deaths of at least three people and injuring more than 170, according to media reports.
